Airports have become hubs of economic development and gateways for growth in jobs in the communities they serve.  In the global marketplace, access to the national and international transportation systems is critical for economic development when it comes to moving products and people in and out of a region.  At ROA, our economic influence is over $250 million a year in direct, indirect and induced impacts.

There is a correlation between airport activity and indicators of regional development – economic output, income and wages, high tech industry and levels of innovation; human capital levels and the concentration of knowledge, professional and creative class workforce.  A recent study notes a close connection between airline passenger levels and metro population and employment growth.

Is it the economy that drives air service or is it air service that drives the economy? In the past when the airline industry was highly fragmented you would probably say either one as carriers were looking for all opportunities to grow capacity if marginal revenue exceeded marginal cost and increase market share. But in today’s consolidated environment, and a profit-driven motive, it is the strength of local and regional economies that are attracting new air service.  

Understanding the factors that go into air service development will provide the communities they serve with the tools necessary to grow the local economy.

About Our Speaker

Tim Bradshaw has been with the Roanoke Regional Airport Commission since October 2014.  He was the Airport Director for Eastern Iowa Airport from June 2010 to October 2014 and spent 2 years as the Deputy Executive Director for the Louisville Regional Airport Authority prior to that.  Tim worked as an Airport Manager and Airport Operations Supervisor for 10 years at several facilities and also served in the US Coast Guard as a helicopter rescue crewman for 7 years.

Tim's professional accomplishments include being an Accredited Airport Executive with the American Association of Airport Executives.  He holds a Master's in Public Administration from Western Kentucky University and a Bachelor's in Aviation Business Administration from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Tim is married to Janee and has a 25 year old daughter, Jessica.  He is an avid outdoorsman who loves to ride horses, hike, fish, canoe and travel.

Monthly Meetings are generally held the fourth Tuesday of the month.  We have both breakfast and lunch meetings during the year.  Please click on the specific meeting you are interested in for meeting times and location.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

Registration for Monthly Meetings will close at noon the day before the meeting.  Due to the costs involved with securing adequate meeting space and meals, refunds will not be granted if cancellation is not received at least 24 hours in advance. Send all cancellation notices via e-mail to rkevalshrm@gmail.com. Substitutions are allowed, however the non-member rate may apply.  If we do not receive a cancellation notice more than 24 hours before the event, you will be required to pay for the event, even if you are unable to attend.

Members and guests who are unable to register in advance are invited to attend as a walk in and pay onsite.  We usually have a few extra seats to accommodate onsite registrations, but seating is not guaranteed and preregistration is encouraged.
