New Form I-9:  MAJOR Overhaul and Changes

USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) will release the ‘new version of Form I-9’ on August 1, 2023 although employers don’t have to start using it until November 1, 2023.   This in-depth session will cover the MAJOR changes including; reducing the form from 2 pages down to 1 page; moved the Preparer/Translator Certification portion to Optional Supplement A; Section 3 is now a separate page called Supplement B Reverification and Rehire; Additional Acceptable Receipts have been added to the List of Acceptable Documents; a major overhaul of the M-274 (Guidance or Employers manual); and employers who participate in the new ‘Remote Document Examination’ (RDE), which reduces the burden on employer & employees and support a virtual work environment, must enroll in E-Verify (if not already enrolled).  SHRM and HRCI credit will be provided to attendees after the session along with a copy of the presentation.  A question-and-answer session will be conducted at the end of the presentation.

    Speaker:

Late in 2022, Dave started up Clarify I-9, LLC after retiring from with USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) as their Sr. Form I-9 and E-Verify SME speaker. In his new role, Dave’s goal is to assist employers in making Form I-9 and E-Verify less confusing. With USCIS, Dave conducted over 800 presentations, on Form I-9 and E-Verify, via webinar and on-site events to audiences around the country including elected officials, immigration attorneys, compliance personnel to human resources and payroll professionals. Dave’s presentations for associations included Society of HR Management, PayrollOrg (formerly American Payroll), National Notary, and College and University Professional Association-HR to list a few. From 2008-2022, Dave was the USCIS, Verification Division’s point of contact for Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents and auditors regarding E-Verify. From 2016-2021, Dave was a frequent speaker for ICE’s Auditor Training and the Advanced Worksite Enforcement Training. These courses were attended by specially trained agents and auditors at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA. In 2016, the American Payroll Association presented Dave with their annual Government Partner Award in recognition of his service, as a government agent, to the payroll community. In 2014, Dave was selected as the recipient of AR (Arkansas) SHRM’s Friend of Human Resources Profession award for his work educating their members on Form I-9 and E-Verify. Dave retired from the U.S. Army, in 2008, after a 20-year career. His awards include the Legion of Merit.
