Registered Apprenticeship:  A Time-Honored Training Model for a Modern World of Work

In Virginia, the Division of Registered Apprenticeship has been helping employers develop their own customized programs since 1938.  Today, Registered Apprenticeship provides employees with the unique ability to earn while they learn. Pairing structured On the Job Training with Related Technical Instruction, the apprentice is guided by a seasoned mentor or mentors to enhance the hands-on learning experience.  The structure of this model allows employers to have a wider, more diverse pool of individuals to choose from, and opens doors for individuals with barriers in their background.  Studies show that Registered Apprenticeship programs have significantly increased retention rates, higher productivity and reduced long-term training costs.  There is no better return on investment.  Join us to learn how to put this proactive tool to work for your business or organization.

Speaker:  Kara Joyce, Registered Apprenticeship Consultant, Virginia Works

For the last four years, Kara has served as a Registered Apprenticeship Consultant with the Division of Registered Apprenticeship for Virginia Works. Her varied work background– everything from catering to college instructor to human services to workforce development – has proved to be a good foundation for working with the 1200 different occupations registered in Virginia.
