Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are hot topics in today’s workplace – but what does it really mean?
More than ever a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment is the goal. It is a place where everyone works toward a common objective with the benefit of several differing, yet respectful points of view. How do you build a culture of respect for others—old, young, black, brown, LGBTQIA+, and more, when the world seems more divisive than ever? With training and education on U.S. employment laws and an open conversation about some of the harmful perceptions, barriers, and associations in your business – many of these things can be addressed and eliminated. The result? By starting this conversation, we believe that you will see increased productivity and an overall happier workplace. Join this session and let’s work on improving all of our workplaces!
About Our Speaker
Victor Cardwell
Chairman, Principal and Co-Chair, Labor and Employment Practice
Victor Cardwell practices labor and employment law throughout the U.S., focusing on diversity, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and labor/management relations—including union-organizing campaigns and union-avoidance techniques, and workplace violence. He has significant experience before state and federal courts and administrative agencies, including the National Labor Relations Board. Victor offers counsel to executive and human resources managers on a wide range of employer concerns—from harassment, sexual orientation/transgender, retaliation, and discrimination, to workforce reductions, handbooks and agreements, unfair competition, wage/hour compliance, health and disability, discipline/discharge, and employee leave. Victor is Chair of the Board of Governors of the Virginia Bar Association and the Virginia State Bar’s Board of Governors for its Diversity Conference. He was named to the Roanoke Law Foundation Fellows Program and has received Virginia Lawyers Weekly’s “Leaders in the Law” award. Among many other recognitions throughout his career, in 2019, Victor received the Martin Luther King “Drum Major for Justice” award issued by the local Roanoke chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
