    The mission of our chapter is to be the recognized regional leader and voice of human resource management and to provide quality services to our members. To support our mission, we request that you participate on one or more committees. Each of the following committee opportunities is available to you; please contact the Committee Leader, whose name and contact information is provided at the end of each description, for additional information or to express your interest in volunteering:

    Arrangements Committee

    Members will assist the Committee Chair at the monthly meetings by facilitating meeting registration, greeting chapter members, collecting money and assisting sponsors and presenters if necessary.     Exhibitor Committee

    Members will assist the Committee Chair in identifying and acquiring sponsors for chapter meetings and events who are willing to support the chapter financially in return for an opportunity to promote their product or service to members.  They will conduct benchmarking and networking activities necessary for creating a viable sponsor program.  For more information, contact the Exhibitor Chair (Charlotte Mason).

    Legislative Committee

    Members will work with Committee Chair to develop ways to educate members on state and federal legislation, as well as how to lobby in support of HR legislation. The committee will also provide legislative updates to the chapter membership at monthly meetings.  For more information, please contact Michael Gardner.

    Marketing Committee

    Members will assist the Committee Chair in putting our chapter in the forefront of HR happenings in Roanoke, publicizing activities and promoting the chapter as a professional organization.     Membership Committee

    Members will work with the VP of Membership and the Roster Chair on ways to recruit and retain members, update the online membership directory, develop ideas to promote networking and the integration of new chapter members.  For more information, please contact VP of Membership (Shawn Keiser) or Roster Chair (Lindsey Coley).

    Military Liaison Committee

    Members will assist the Committee Chair to provide chapter SHRM members with the tools they need to recognize the value of hiring veterans and ways to find qualified veteran job candidates. They will develop resources specifically designed to help HR connect more easily with veteran programs.  For more information, please contact the Military Liaison Chair (TBD).

    Professional Certification

    Members will work with Committee Chair on ways to assist chapter members in obtaining their professional SHRM designations. Members also assist with obtaining credit approvals for monthly meetings. For more information, please contact the Professional Certification Chair (Gidget Woodard).

    Program Committee

    Members will assist the VP of Programs to secure presenters and schedule meaningful and informative programs during our monthly meetings.     SHRM Foundation Committee

    Members will assist the Committee Chair to educate, promote and represent the interests of the National SHRM Foundation and its activities to the chapter membership.  Activities will include selling raffle tickets at monthly meetings and coordinating the annual Christmas silent auction.  For more information, please contact the SHRM Foundation Committee Chair (Kim Braswell)

    Special Events Committee / Conference

    Members will assist the Committee Chair in planning and executing events other than the monthly meetings.  Currently the committee is working on the fall conference.  For more information, please contact the Special Events Committee Chair (TBD)

    Student Chapter Committee

    Members will work with Committee Chair to engage local college student in the field of HR, administer the scholarship program, and promote a relationship between the academic and business communities.  For more information, please contact the Student Chapter Chair (Joyce Kessinger).

    Technology Committee/Historian

    Members will assist the Committee Chair to maintain the chapter’s website and to make recommendations for updates, additions and changes. Members will also assist the Marketing Chair by recording the chapter’s history to include pictures when appropriate and details about chapter events and sharing on the chapter website and social media sites.  For more information, please contact the Technology Committee Chair (Dawn Crutchfield Board).     Workforce Readiness Committee

    Members will assist the Committee Chair in partnering with local schools, other educational institutions and appropriate organizations to provide feedback, support and education on topics that will prepare individuals to enter, or re-enter, the workforce.  For more information, please contact the Workforce Readiness Chair (Jennifer Pittman).
